It's here, it's here!

I've waited a long time for this. Several months of finding other things to do. Months of wondering. Months of waiting. Finally, football has returned to me! With the first couple of games of the 2012 regular season behind us, it's funny what has already begun to play out. Arkansas tickets have taken a nosedive after their loss to the ULM Warhawks 31-34 (ULM Warhawks? Who are they?). Anyway, the season is well under way, and I'm excited about it. So far, South Carolina is undefeated against Vanderbilt (which they almost lost) and East Carolina, but we'll see when it's LSU Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks or the Clemson Tigers vs. South Carolina Gamecocks games.

Our Modern World...

Get a sense of humor. They're nice...

There are many options available to us in the modern world for entertainment. Television has become so innocuous that we take it for granted. There it is sophisticated theater with now hundreds of options at our fingertips, and all we have to do is (sometimes) sit through advertisements. Streaming video even deals away with the ads to a large extent, and expands the options of what we can watch. The problem with this is that it results in people isolating themselves inside their houses for hours or days at a time, with very little interaction with the outside world. If you must stay plugged in, take your laptop or tablet outside.
There is a lot to be said for getting out and seeing the world. Before television, if people wanted to see a show, they had to go to the theatre and see a play. If they wanted to see a sporting event, they had to go to the stadium. Older people tell stories of being outside on warm summer evenings where people would gather on front porches and talk with their neighbors. I remember visiting neighbors that way in the summer when I was a child.
Even now, when I'm travelling, I'll take my laptop and sit outside reading blogs that I like (Sports and Stuff is a favorite) and chat with the neighbors as they walk by. Granted, these are RV parks, but the principal is the same, I think.
Don’t sit at home watching the television. Get out and go do things where there are other people. Go to the theatre and see a play, get tickets to a football or baseball game. Go for a walk on a warm evening and say hello to the neighbors. It’s good for you!

Internet Wanderings

I'm a big nerd. I always have been. My kids think it's funny. One thing I'm still having to get used to, though, is this blog thing. I spend a lot of time looking for examples of decent blogs about stuff I'm interested in. I've found a few and thought I'd recommend them. Theater Blogging is a nice little theater review site. Coach Can I Play is a nice blog by what I guess is a sports dad. Sports and Crap is like the name, kinda funny. Go check them out, it's worth it.
For that matter, Internet Ticket Outlet is a good place to get tickets for events like this. I use them all the time.

And so it begins anew

It's not spring yet, but it is the new year, and that means the next football season is gearing up! I'm really looking forward to the 2012 College football season! I'll find the tickets I need and then plan my trip accordingly. I suppose at some point I'm going to have to go home for a while.

I'm going to start this blog to record my travels here and there. I'm retired, and I like to spend my time RV'ing around, watching football games, plays, catching concerts when I can, etc. I've always wanted to be a gypsy, and now I can!
I was in New York for new years, and I got some War Horse discount tickets and I was very impressed. The puppets were something else. I found a video about the company that made them, and it was very informative.
I also managed to get some Spiderman Broadway tickets
